We replaced two gas furnaces with heat pumps, and Hilo was one of three companies who gave us quotes. Chris came to our house and spent close to six hours crawling around in our attic, drawing maps of our ducting, identifying problems with our existing system and ways the new installation could solve them. He presented us with several options from different manufacturers at a variety of price points and took the time to thoroughly answer all my questions about energy efficiency, SEER, communicating thermostats and more. It was obvious he knew his stuff and the decision to use Hilo was easy.Once we committed, Hilo worked with us to apply for all the rebates and tax incentives we qualified for. On the day of the installation, the Hilo crew was fast, efficient and thoughtful. Their idea to reposition one of the new air handlers resulted in less ducting, less blower noise and more useable space in our attic.We love the new system and our home is more comfortable now than it's ever been. The old furnace used to cycle on and off, leaving us too hot or too cold but rarely comfortable.The new system maintains the set temperature to within one degree at all times. We often forget it's on because it's so quiet.It's been just over a year since the installation, and follow up service from Hilo has been exceptional. You won't go wrong with this company - they have our highest recommendation!
I give this business a 5 star because of the following. Every single person I have interactions with are courteous and professional. They answer all my questions, right away. They take their time when servicing or fixing my AC. They are up front on costs and services and even provide financing options. I have even referred this company to others and they were very satisfied with their work. I highly recommend this company!

My furnace stopped working the day after Christmas. I heard many good things about Hilo Aire so I decided to give them a call. Brett came out on time and was very courteous. He put his shoe covers on coming into the house and finished the work on time. He spent his time explaining everything and answered all my questions. I would definitely contact Hilo for my next repair.
We hired Hilo Aire to completely replace our heating and air conditioning systems in our 2-story house. So it is 2 separate units that they replaced. Our first contact with the company was with Chris. He explained everything so that we could understand what we were buying. The crew was right on time each morning, and they were very polite and kept things neat and clean. It was overall a great experience.

What a breath of fresh air! Hilo Aire were absolutely excellent. Project was to relocate and replace existing condensers with side-discharge heat pumps for both efficiency, permitting, and noise concerns. We've been looking to do this project for the past 3+ years but never felt comfortable enough with the quotes or companies we talked to to pull the trigger. Hilo Aire is one of those rare gems. I can't give them enough praise. They looked at the project scope thoroughly and presented many different options, including not moving the units at all and saving me a lot of money. There was no sales pitch/urgency to go one way or the other. They were legitimately concerned for doing what's best for me.Key points:- Kept me involved in every decision as much as I wanted to.- They were happy to educate on exactly what every decision or route we took meant, cost, efficiency, parts, labor, incentives, long-term performance, expectations etc..- Prices are fair and better than others.- Crew arrived on-time every day.- Clean, friendly crew. All knowledgable, all pleasant to talk to and at no point did we feel like the crew didn't represent the first impression we got from the company. Steller staff and company.- Installation was complex but went by smoothly and slightly ahead of time (or they just made it look easy)- Left install site cleaner than it was.- Above all, they know what they're doing and have the resources to get it done. The biggest factor in how happy you'll be with a system is if the installation is done right and these guys do it right.- Upgraded some equipment at their own expense when they found better options (Example, upgraded Thermostat, upgraded voltage regulator/disconnect, upgraded water leak detector in attic etc.. etc..). They spare no expense or care to make sure your experience with them is excellent from start to finish. There are little things that other companies might skimp on that these guys take pride in providing you with the highest quality parts and best possible install.The list of positives goes on and on. Five star review for Hilo Aire. Chris came out and offered some options with an extensive explanation of the advantages of each. He is very knowledgeable about heating and AC systems. Took time to answer all our questions. The crew showed up on time. They were friendly, courteous and cleaned up after themselves. They replaced both furnace and AC in less than a day. No subcontractors and Brett took care of my questions when I called the office. I definitely hired the right company for the job. Our system is quieter and much more efficient.

Chris and Brett are saviors. My old AC broke down at the end of the summer heat, did my due diligence and decided to proceed to Hilo AIRE due to the cost and being a local company. These guys are very thorough and know all about HVAC with all the recent guidelines for La County. They went above and beyond by installing a temporary portable AC in my living and master’s and got me through the hell-like heat until I got a work schedule w/n the 3rd day.Thanks, Brett and Chris ❤️ many good years and luck to the business. 😘
They were amazing. They took the time to inspect my unit and described to me what needed to be done. However they didn't try to sell me on anything either. They were totally honest and I would 100% use them again and recommend them to anyone who is having HVAC issues!
The company was very responsive and the technicians that arrived were knowledgeable and explained everything clearly. They had my air conditioning up and running the same day at a reasonable cost.

Brett came late evening and fixed the blown fuse on the FAU up in my attic. On.day that reached 107 to 110 degrees earlier. Helped setup new smart thermostat Allina less than hour. BTW it was over 90 degrees in my home before he got the AC up and running again. I highly recommend Brett.
I called Hilo Aire and they came the next day. Chris was our technician and he was great. He was friendly and walked us through everything that could be going wrong w our AC unit and explained what he was doing to fix it. Our AC is running smoothly now. We will definitely go back to them in the future!

Chris came over and replaced a part same day to get my AC back up and running just hours after telling him about it being down. Which was a life savor because it was 110 degrees today!
On Sunday afternoon (September 8), when the temperature was over 105 degrees, our 24-year-old AC stopped working. I called a number of HVAC companies. Hilo was the most responsive and helpful. They said they would send someone early Monday morning (September 9). Sure enough, Chris came around 8:30am. He diagnosed the problem within 2 minutes and completely fixed it in 10 minutes. It required replacing a 24 year old part. Even though it was an urgent, short notice call, the price was extremely reasonable for the part and the service. Chris very patiently and clearly explained everything. The system is working better than it was before and is quieter.I also asked him about a new system, and he went through all the options with the pros and cons. He is coming back tomorrow morning to inspect our existing system, the wiring, the ducting, the house and attic, etc., so he can give us an accurate quote with several options and recommendations. Of all the companies I've talked to, Chris gave us the most detailed explanations and the reasons for going one way or another, and what the right ways to do various things were. Based on this, when we do get a new system, we will go with Hilo and Chris. He by far instilled the most confidence.
Our ac was out for 2 days during the recent heatwave. Our home was at 95 degrees. Everyone was swamped so we were just waiting for a few companies to get back to us. Luckily we saw the HiLo van in front of us on our way home and called right away. He was nice enough to let meKnow he would try and stop by since he was in the area. Luckily for us he was down right away and had our AC up and running in 20 minutes. Fast, courteous and reasonably priced. Thanks again.
My air blower didn’t work. I replaced capacitor for the blower but still didn’t work. Called several vendors, only Hilo Aire could come by on the same day. Chris showed up and checked the blower and circuit board. He explained his analysis of the problem to me and gave me several solutions and suggestions with pros and cons, which made great sense. I followed his advice and ordered new board to replace the malfunctioning one. Great appreciation for Chris’s professional, honest and considerate service. Highly recommend for all who needs A/C services.

Best hvac team around! Contacted them at 9pm for an emergency work, and rather than beat around the bush to potentially upcharge, Chris carefully guided me through some steps to take in finding out if I can resolve (and restore) my hvac issue myself.After an hour of walking me through various steps, figured out that he would have to come out. Came out the following day and he was able to correct quickly and even his fee was completely reasonable. Highly recommend and they're now on my speed dial for all HVAC needs!

Just when you thought customer service was a thing of the past, enter the owners of Hilo Aire. Our A/C system died during an excessive heat alert on Labor Day. Called 4 companies and Hilo was the first to respond...within 15 minutes by the way. (The rest sent emails about getting back to us the next business day.)Brett was there within 30 minutes, easily diagnosed the problem and set us up with 2 portable air conditioners to keep us cool until he could get the part needed for the repair.Chris did the repair the following morning, and explained what we may expect with our 20 year old system, and things we should consider. No sales pressure, just good info delivered professionally. You can tell he was speaking from having years of experience.If you have an HVAC issue, need service or want a new system, you must call Hilo Aire. The crew at Hilo Air were amazing. During summer they came out same day to attempt to fix our broken air conditioner. Finding out that it was going to be a bigger job than replacing a simple part we decided to replace the system. They had their sales person come out with many options that same night. We scheduled installation for the following week and they set us up with portable air conditioners to get us through the 100+ weekend we were going to have. That Monday, they showed up on time and made sure they left the house cleaner than what they found. If you want an honest company that gives you more than what you expect and a fair price in doing so… these are your guys. Also took the time to explain every aspect of the system and didn’t push something you didn’t need. A++++

Called and spoke with Brett about air conditioner blowing hot air. Got prompt response and Chris who is the owner came out at 8 pm to look at it. Chris set up time to do an isolation test around my schedule. Scott ended up coming out ran the isolation test and found the leak quickly. Great service by a great company. I would highly recommend them to anyone in need of HVAC repair or replacement.
Ahh! If there’s an HVAC company that’s a breath of fresh air, it’s Hilo Aire!! From their knowledge and professionalism to the little details, like CLEANING UP after their work is done (hello!), they’re just simply the best I’ve ever experienced. Remember Miracle on 34th St when Santa sent the shopper to a competitor to save them money, and won the customer over? They’re like that. They didn’t send me to a competitor, but Chris has been over to my house and has said “No, I wouldn’t spend the thousands it would take to do this, just use a fan”and things like that. I just trust their instinct and excellent service and if you don’t want to be left out in the cold by far less superior companies, I recommend you give Hilo a try!

Hilo Aire is the best! I am so happy that we went with them for a new AC system! We got quotes from other companies and by far Hilo Aire had the best quote and none of the sales pressure. Their crew is awesome and the install was smooth. Even a week later, when we had an issue with the water runoff in our attic, Chris came out on the weekend just to fix it right away. The team at HiLoAire are awesome. They take their time to explain everything and different options for your air conditioning concerns/budget. It was clear from talking to Brett that the company wanted to do the job right and use quality products and install your system correctly. As a woman home owner I sometimes feel some service people try to take advantage of my lack of knowledge or try to upsell non essentials. Not this team . They showed me the issue and what needed to be fixed in great detail (I even learned how this stuff works). So ladies feel safe to call HiLo for your air/heat concerns. Of course gentlemen can feel safe to call too!

They provided a creative solution that fit both our needs and our budget. They replaced the whole system in a single day, without us leaving the house, and well ahead of their projected schedule. The install team (Ricky, Caesar, and Ishmael) were just as professional, punctual, knowledgeable, and respectful of our home. I called Hilo Aire and was happy to hear that Chris could come by later in the afternoon on the SAME DAY to check out my HVAC system which seems to be short cycling. When he arrived, the system was working and no error codes were visible. He showed me how to check the error codes myself and provided some insight into other potential issues. He also reassured me that what I’m doing to get the AC to keep running (resetting the breakers) won’t hurt the system. While the issue isn’t resolved, I very much appreciate Chris’ to explain the issues. When the issue reappears, I know what to do and will call Hilo Aire to get the job done.

HiLo Aire is fantastic! We have used them in several of our managed properties and they have always done a great job. They are very thorough and informative on their repairs and installations. They have even helped determined that the source of a leak was not due to the a/c condensation line but from a sewer line. I highly recommend them to everyone.

We called Hilo Aire for a preventative maintenance appointment. We didn’t want to have our AC unit fail us again in the summer heat. We have a special needs child who needs to be away from high temperatures. Hilo Aire put us on the schedule the same week, ordered our parts and came back the same day to install them. Outstanding technicians, well-intentioned, skilled, knowledgeable, overextended, understaffed, and inconsistent in communication. At this point, I always hope for the best in terms of a return communication, but do not always receive it. Incredibly talented, fairly priced, and very well-meaning; may not follow up on some thing in the time frame they indicate or may not follow thru on an action.Because they are so talented and fairly priced they are in very high demand during this crazy season, and while that’s a wonderful thing and much deserved, they do require far better communication in general, and should have some kind of a support staff in place to schedule customers, answer, questions, and follow up on communication in general. I do believe they mean the very best, but some of the anxiety and concern could’ve been avoided with proper communication, and if they had some sort of a system in place to communicate with customers when primary techs / owners are all on the job in the field.BUT: honest, honorable, deeply knowledgeable.They did bail me out of an emergency this summer, and though the communication was not always straightforward or prompt in terms of when they said, they would return a call or get back to me on a certain date, they did follow through. They were honorable and their pricing, and I have discussed with them that they clearly need to get staff to support them while they’re out in the field.They also have an AI system in place so when you reach out to them you’re most likely going to get a they did bail me out of an emergency this summer, and though the communication was not always straightforward or prompt in terms of when they said, they would return , or get back to me on a certain date, they did follow through.They were honorable on their pricing, and I have expressed that they clearly need to get Staff to support them while they’re out in the field.Thank you.

If I could give Hilo Aire a 10-star review, I would do so in a minute! I cant even begin to adequately express just how impressed I was with Chris when he came out to check on a problem that I was having with my HVAC unit. I called Hilo at 8:40 a.m. and Chris arrived less than hour later. Chris could not have been kinder or more professional, and showed what a class act he is when he discovered that the only problem I had was actually fixable with just two AA batteries. That's right, what I thought was going to be a major job turned out to be as simple as replacing the batteries in the thermostat. Of course I felt foolish for not being able to figure that out on my own and asked Chris what I owed him for the service call. Chris smiled and said no charge at all. He advised that he was happy that all it took was a couple of batteries to resolve the problem. My advice to anyone needing HAVC service is simple: don't even think about calling anyone else other than Chris and Hilo Aire!
I rarely hire anyone to do repairs at my home because I do almost everything myself. I needed assistance with the startup of a new mini split system that has the new R-32 refrigerant and had a difficult time finding someone that was willing to help. Chris from Hilo Aire was willing to help me out and was very quick to respond with great communication. Scott was the technician that came to my house and was very professional and did a great job. The R-32 refrigerant takes a special adapter fitting that literally nobody had but Scott was able to find one quickly. I will certainly call Hilo Aire for any future HVAC needs.

We called Hilo Aire on several concerns with our heating and air system. Chris evaluated the system and determined several issues. He also saw that our system was only a few years old and he indicated that the system should not have these issues based on the age of the system. He recommended contacting the company that installed the system to correct the issues. We followed his recommendations and contacted the company that installed the system.I appreciate the recommendation from Chris, which is not money in his pocket, but what is best for the consumer. While we did not use him for our problem, I would recommend him for any job as his thought process, what is best for the client.

I called Chris at Hilo Aire this morning to replace a vent pipe cap that had rusted out on the roof above my water heater. I’m sure this is a small job and I expected to have to wait at least a few days but Chris had it replaced by the end of the day and I won’t have to worry about leaks when it rains next. I’ve never had any company act that quickly, especially with a small job. I’m super impressed with Chris and Hilo Aire and you can bet when it’s a big job I’ll be calling him again. I deeply appreciate conscientious customer service, which is a rarity these days. Chris came through in spades.

My old AC and furnace were over 32 years old and it still runs however it was no longer energy efficient .I decided to get four estimates to make sure I made the best choice. I met with all of the reps within 10 days time frame. Two out of four estimates were basically horrible as they focused on “quick buck's“ and they were quite pushy.That leave me with two companies, I had a bit hard time choosing between Hilo Aire and the another one. After spending another day researching some more on them and after asking them some more questions. I decided to go to Better Business Bureau (BBB) website. I discovered the other company has too many bad reviews and issues about their customer service after the units were installed. Hilo Aire customer reviews were very POSITIVE. I chose Hilo Aire instantly. It was a GOOD thing I used BBB’s website as part of my research process.Few days later, Hilo Aire reps and crews contacted me to schedule to get the project started. Everything went smoothly from the start to the finish (from removing my old unit and installing new HAV/HOC system in 8-9 hours time frame). They took their time and inspected everything step by step throughout the process. It was so IMPORTANT to me the crews worked as if the house was theirs. Once everything was completed and running. They thanked me for the business and service.A few weeks later, a city hall permit inspector came and validated the entire system with a “flying color”.Two weeks later, I got my energy bills- I was so happy to see a huge drop in energy costs. It was wonderful to know I will be saving more money down the road.Also, pretty soon I will get an energy rebate check in the mail. When it is time for me to do my taxes. I will also get a 30 percent Federal energy credit.. That’s a huge BONUS along with Hilo Aire Company’s customers service are what made me very pleased with the entire experience.I wanted to thank Chad, the Hilo Aire rep. who was always there for me when I needed him from the start to the end.Hilo Aire has given me so much peace of mind knowing if anything goes wrong with the new system … they will make it right. I would give 10 stars if I could. From the very beginning the technical support and expertise was excellent. I sent a text inquiry regarding a problem with my heater on a Sunday that Chris not only responded to, but over the phone using FaceTime was also able to identify. Chris is very experienced with Lennox and was able to get an expensive part I needed under warranty. This speaks very highly of their integrity, as many companies would have charged me for the part instead of contacting Lennox. Chris and later, Scott each made a significant drive from Santa Clarita to Ojai to further diagnose and resolve the problem.In a world of often shoddy workmanship, it was very heartwarming to experience the integrity, skill, and professionalism Chris and his crew provided. The guys from Hilo Aire were great! They showed up right on time and got to work in teams. They talked to us and walked us through the process providing various alternatives and choices. Their word has been impeccable!
Our AC system had been on the fritz the last couple of summers and we finally decided that this was the year to replace. We got 5 estimates and could immediately tell that Hilo Aire was a cut above the rest. Their attention to detail and genuine desire to help was refreshing after receiving obvious disinformation from some of our “sales pitches”. They spent several hours walking us through our options and broke down the pro’s and con’s of converting to heat pump (the incentives were too good to pass up) and explained why some parts of our home were less comfortable than others. They were the only company that explained that our ducting was significantly undersized. They were on time, efficient and pleasant during the installation, finishing all of their work in two days. I work from home and they made sure to tell me when parts of the installation might be a little noisy. When they finished, they cleaned up as if nobody was ever there. We absolutely love how quiet and comfortable our new Mitsubishi system is. We didn’t like the initial placement of the outdoor unit (they told us it was tall, so it was our fault, not their’s). Scott, their installation manager, was insistent that we were happy with the finished product. He relocated it back to the original location, without batting an eye. The city inspector even praised their work, which was really comforting, considering this was such a big investment. Our only regret is that we waited so long to do this.

Typically, I don’t give any opinion or review in public, but I decided to make an exception for hilo aire. In July 2023, I interviewed 7 HVAC companies, and hilo aire is the only one with the engineering discipline and mindset. Besides the broken condenser installed 31 years ago, my four bedrooms had limited airflow to get cold or hot in the past. After three discussion sessions with me, hilo aire designed a cost-effective system to replace the entire HVAC unit, including the new ducting system and supply and return vents. Hilo doesn’t try to upsell you, or sell you options that don’t make sense for your house. He came and inspected our system, to find out that it was severely underpowered for the size of the house. He made sure he showed us options, but gave us a straightforward recommendation of what we actually needed to be comfortable and lower our cooling bills, without pushing the most expensive options, which is all too common. He even made sure we knew about updated California HVAC mandates that may need to be addressed. Installation was swift and very tidy, and the system is better than we could have hoped for.
